The words 'Yo Yo Honey Singh' and 'soft breezy love songs' don't often go together. Yet, the rapper has managed to deliver a decent, fun composition that fits the theme of a lovers' tiff between Nushrat Bharucha and Rajkummar Rao's characters in Chhalaang.
The song is set to the visuals of a miffed Bharucha complaining that Rao's character does not care about her. All the visual elements, from the cosy interiors to the rain, spell romance. There is not much happening by way of choreography, yet both actors look compelling as a couple. Bharucha is full of expression and matches the playfulness of the song.
Sweetaj Brar takes the lead vocally and manages capably. Her voice strikes the right balance between the sensually playful and melodious. Yo Yo Honey Singh eventually does his thing with a fast-paced rap intervention that speeds up the tempo of the composition. The composition itself is quite simple, with a steady staccato beat that keeps the rhythm going. The lyrics by Alfaaz, Yo Yo Honey Singh and Hommie Dilwalla are a playful mix of English and Punjabi that sits easily on the ears.
All in all, the song is a playfully establishes the romantic mood of the drama.
Directed by Hansal Mehta, Chhalaang is set to be released on 13 November on Amazon Prime Video.
