Feluda, Professor Shanku to appear together in film celebrating Satyajit Ray’s birth centenary

The upcoming SVF Entertainment feature will be directed by the late filmmaker’s son, Sandip Ray.

Satyajit Ray’s famous characters Feluda and Professor Shanku are coming together in a feature film for the first time to commemorate the late filmmaker’s birth centenary next year. The upcoming SVF Entertainment feature will be directed by his son, Sandip Ray.

The untitled feature will combine Bengali literature’s iconic characters in different stories of their own. The first-look poster of the film highlights the important anniversary and features both the distinct profiles of the two fictional characters within the number 100.

In a press release, Sandip spoke about his vision for the film. “I want to select two of the best stories of Feluda and Shanku for this film to show the grandeur of the characters,” he stated. “Till date, I have made Feluda and Shanku as different content. But bringing them together in one film is challenging and exciting at the same time. I hope this film will remain memorable for a long time [sic].”

Mahendra Soni, the co-founder and director of SVF Entertainment, said that seeing Feluda and Professor Shanku on screen in the same film would be a huge deal for the Bengali audience. "I have immense faith in the filmmaking of Sandip Ray and believe he can create wonders with his father’s work,” said Soni.

“It’s a pleasure and honour to work on Satyajit Ray’s creations and characters and to present a bit more of him to the audience on his 100th birth anniversary. I hope this film will make the next year much more special for the Bengali audience and all Ray lovers,” he continued.

The keenly anticipated film is due to be released in May 2021.
