When one hears the title Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari one automatically thinks the film deals with astrology, but the trailer of Abhishek Sharma-directed film proves otherwise.
Set in 1995 Bombay, we are introduced to Suraj Singh Dhillon by the actor Diljit Dosanjh himself. Suraj is eager to get married to a subservient girl to rock his bed and kitchen.
After many rejections, Suraj is about to get finalized an alliance with a beautiful girl, but her family calls off the marriage when someone slips them photographs of Suraj drinking alcohol. Suraj finds out that the photographs were taken by a private detective, Madhu Mangal Rane (Manoj Bajpayee) who specializes in spying on men and tipping off their potential brides's family about their wrongdoings. A ticked-off Suraj decides to take revenge by wooing Madhu's own sister played by Fatima Sana Shaikh.
The trailer makes it clear that the film is a comedy with a little dose of romance. It's good to see Bajpayee, who is known for his serious roles, playing a comical character. Dosanjh also looks in top form and his comic flair is on full display. Shaikh looks beautiful but the trailer doesn't reveal much about her character. The film also features well-known artistes such as Annu Kapoor, Supriya Pilgaonkar and Manoj Pahwa.
Although these artistes are versatile, one can't help but notice that Pilgaonkar, who is playing Bajpayee's mother is only two years older than him. And makers also haven't made any effort to make her look that old. Another decision that is perplexing is setting the film in 1995. One hopes that the film justifies setting the story in this era.
The film is slated to be released in theatres on 13 November.
