Chaotic, confusing, hilarious and filled with moments of snark, the trailer of Anurag Basu's Ludo is entertaining and colourful, to say the least. The film features an ensemble cast comprising Abhishek Bachchan, Rajkummar Rao, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Saraf, Pearle Maaney, Inayat Verma and Pankaj Tripathi.
The description of the film reads: "Ludo is about the butterfly effect and how, despite all the chaos and crowd of the world, all our lives are inextricably connected."
When Bachchan's character Bittu carries out his first kidnapping, he is so pitiful that his victim (Verma) has to step in and lend a hand. Meanwhile, Rajkummar Rao plays a waiter, who is forced to organise a jailbreak to help the husband of his love, Fatima Sana Shaikh. Rao, for once, has the freedom to cut loose with sappy filmy lines and delivers them with flair. Love also plays a part in the contrasting personalities of Kapur and Malhotra's characters. While Kapur plays a ventriloquist conning the girl he loves, she plays the more practical woman in the relationship. And then there's the menacing figure of Tripathi's Bittu, a hitman who provides the thrills and chills in the trailer.
With its colour, sharp edits, rough-edged characters and humour, the film seems to be right out of Anurag Basu's typical tragi-comical world. It appears that Rohit Saraf and Maaney's characters set off the chain reaction with a money heist with catastrophic results. With an assortment of actors with an impressive record, the film might be worth the wait.
Produced by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series and Anurag Basu Productions, Ludo releases on 12 November on Netflix.
