In Raghava Lawrence's upcoming Laxmmi Bomb (2020), Akshay Kumar's character is possessed by a spirit that seeks revenge on a politician. The first song from the film, 'BurjKhalifa' has nothing to do with the film's plot. Instead, it is an ode to Dubai's famous skyscraper Burj Khalifa.
The dance track, sung and composed by Shashi and DJ Khushi, is yet another typical Hindi item song that adds nothing to the actual plot of the film. Instead, it focuses on the two leads, Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani, who dance in front of the tallest building in the world.
The party song is quite unimaginative, filmed in the desert, with the stars and background dancers with the usual stereotypical references to Arabic culture. The choreography is also standard and the whole video offers nothing new.
The song, penned by Gagan Ahuja, includes as many references to the skyscraper as one can tolerate. Shashi and DJ Khushi try to infuse as much Punjabi flavour into the track and amp it up with electronic Middle Eastern beats, and Nikhita Gandhi joins them for one verse which is lip-synched by Advani.
Even though Akshay Kumar promises to gift Advani the Burj Khalifa, we never get to see the interiors of the landmark. Instead, it remains in the background, out of reach.
Laxmmi Bomb, the Hindi remake of Muni 2: Kanchana (2011), is due to be released on Disney+ Hotstar on 13 November. Watch the song below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
