In Kabeer Khurana’s Suttabaazi (2021), Renée Sen, Rahul Vohra and Komal Chhabria play members of a family who must confront one another with their ideals when they are forced together during the lockdown.

The film, shooting for which began earlier this month, is likely to be released online. Sen, who makes her acting debut with Suttabaazi, plays a teenager who goes up against her conservative mother, played by Chhabria.

Suttabaazi explores the theme of women’s empowerment through the mother-daughter relationship. The first poster for the film shows the small family in intense conversation.

While Vohra seems to be on the periphery, the topic of discussion seems heated for Sen and Chhabria’s characters. The feature is likely to tackle the situation across many different households as they had no choice but to spend more together during the countrywide lockdown earlier this year.

Recently several projects from the web-series The Gone Game to the short film Banana Bread (2020) have innovatively incorporated the events surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic into relevant topics of daily life. It seems the upcoming feature looks to capture that, though in a different way, while putting across the viewpoints of two generations at odds.

Suttabaazi is produced by Simran Lakhanpal, Ramneek Sawhney and Pankaj Rungta. It will feature music by Oscar nominee Emiliano Mazzenga, who is based in Hollywood.
