The Bombay high court today directed actresses Richa Chadha and Payal Ghosh to make another attempt at settling their issue out of court.

Chadha has filed a defamation suit against Ghosh for dragging her name into the latter's allegation of sexual misconduct against filmmaker Anurag Kashyap.

Justice AK Menon said that if the parties were unable to reach an agreement by the next hearing, he would hear the case on merits.

Chadha's advocate, Sameena Bedi Sachar, pointed out that Ghosh had put out a statement on social media refusing to apologize, despite stating at the previous hearing that she would tender an apology.

Sachar urged the court to hear the matter on merits as both Ghosh and her counsel were issuing disparate statements.

According to the legal news website BarandBench.com, advocate Nitin Satpute, appearing for Ghosh, sought more time to discuss the terms of settlement with his client and file a consent.

The court also heard the representative for Twitter personality Kamaal R Khan, who has also been named in the lawsuit for promoting Ghosh's statement against Chadha. Advocate Manoj Gadkari, representing Khan, also asked for more time as his client is out of the country and reportedly going through ill health.

According to BarandBench.com, the court also extended the injunction on news outlets reporting on anything that Chadha has disputed in her petition until the next hearing tomorrow.
