Police question Anurag Kashyap for eight hours in connection with rape case

The filmmaker has been accused of rape, wrongful restraint, wrongful confinement and outraging a woman’s modesty.

The Mumbai police questioned director Anurag Kashyap for eight hours on Thursday in connection with the complaint filed against him by actress Payal Ghosh alleging rape, wrongful restraint, wrongful confinement and outraging a woman’s modesty.

Kashyap, who was was summoned by the police yesterday, reached the Versova police station around 10:30 am along with his lawyer Priyanka Khimani.

Ghosh accused Kashyap of forcing himself on her during an interview with a Telugu news channel on 19 September. She said that the alleged incident took place in 2014. Following this, she filed the complaint against Kashyap, although she hadn’t accused him of rape initially.

Khimani has labelled all such allegations as false. Figures from the film industry such as Taapsee Pannu, Richa Chadha, Radhika Apte and producer Guneet Monga supported Kashyap and so did his two ex-wives Arti Bajaj and Kalki Koechlin.

Ghosh has received support from fellow actresses Kangana Ranaut and Sherlyn Chopra as well as a few politicians from the Bharatiya Janata Party.
