The shooting of Akshay Kumar's film Bell Bottom concluded on 30 September. The thriller, which went on the floor on 20 August in the United Kingdom, was shot entirely during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Directed by Ranjit M Tewari, the film also stars Vaani Kapoor, Huma Qureshi, Lara Dutta Bhupathi and Adil Hussain.
Akshay Kumar, in an official statement, attributed the achievement to the power of teamwork. "I am grateful to each and every member of the cast and crew from the spot dadas [boys] to the light dadas to the technicians to the make-up dadas to my lovely heroines Vaani, Lara, Huma, my director Ranjit and to [producer] Vashuji and the production team who believed in our audacious plan,” he said.
Akshay Kumar believes this should encourage other filmmakers to go ahead and shoot their films in these times when the pandemic is far from over. “The new normal has made us realize a different way of working that none of us could have imagined," he said. "I hope this encourages film industries globally to do what they do best and start entertaining audiences again. I hope our shoot during the pandemic reassures others that keeping all safety in mind it’s time to get things moving again.”
Producer Jackky Bhagnani expressed gratitude to the unit for trusting the filmmakers to keep them safe. "We feel blessed that we had the right energy on the sets at all times, which is honestly the reason why everything came together so beautifully,” he said.
Bell Bottom is scheduled to be released on 2 April 2021.
