From Wanted (2009), Ready (2011) and Rowdy Rathore (2012) to the more recent Kabir Singh (2018), making Hindi versions of blockbuster Telugu films is seen by some as a sure-shot success formula. Following this trend, Tips has bagged the remake rights of Jr NTR and Tamannaah Bhatia's blockbuster Oosaravelli (2011).
Talking about the decision to remake a hit South Indian film in Hindi, producer Kumar Taurani said, “Tips has always endeavoured to make wholesome entertainers with strong a star cast and music and that prompted us to remake Oosaravelli in Hindi. The Telugu version had done extremely well in the South, and it in fact has a pan-India appeal to it. We are confident the reception among Hindi audiences will be equally great. It's an out and out commercial entertainer that resonates with both the masses and classes and which will bring the audiences to the cinema halls,” he said.
The film is still in its scripting stage and Taurani hasn't yet decided on the cast and director. The original film was directed by Reddy Surender. It told the story of a man's transformation from a cold-blooded mercenary into a loving person.
Contrary to popular opinion, Taurani thinks that remaking a blockbuster can be a risky endeavour. "Remaking a blockbuster is a big responsibility. The audience has already loved and accepted the original and a benchmark has already been put in place, so the remake must meet or exceed their expectations. Hence, the stakes are high. But with the right elements in place success can be replicated,” he said.
The yet-untitled film will join the list of upcoming Telugu remakes that include Shahid Kapoor's Jersey, Bhumi Pednekar's Durgamati and the Tara Sutaria-starrer Tadap.
