'Hardum Humdum', the second song from Anurag Basu's multi-starrer Ludo (2020), is an out-and-out romantic number. The song features a montage of three couples, played by Rajkummar Rao and Fatima Sana Shaikh, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sanya Malhotra, and Rohit Saraf and Pearle Maaney, who are on their own quests. The romantic number binds these three love stories together.
Despite being a slow, melodious song, the tune has a distinct quirkiness which is highlighted by some funny visuals. This particular quality reminds you of Pritam and Basu's previous collaborations such as Barfi! (2012) and Jagga Jasoos (2017), where they had interjected funny visuals in slow romantic songs.
Arijit Singh is in top form here. In fact, such songs are his speciality and he perfectly encapsulates the emotions of the number.
It seems Pritam reserves his best for Basu. Here, too, he proves, yet again, that they are among the best composer-director duos out there. The composition is a mix of contemporary music with a classical touch. The use of the sitar and harmonium adds to the classical nature of the song.
Sayeed Qadri's lyrics encapsulate the feeling of falling in love and how the emotion completely engulfs a person's senses.
'Hardum Humdum' stands out in the crowd because of its refreshing treatment and Arijit Singh's mellifluous voice.
Produced by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series and Anurag Basu Productions, Ludo is set to be released on Netflix on 12 November.
