Irrespective of the flak Tanishk Bagchi receives for his remixes, the composer has enough talent to justify his growing popularity. His latest song, 'Baras Baras', showcases this prowess. Soulful and harmonious, the song melodiously builds up the lingering romance that precedes the horrors of G Ashok's film Durgamati.
Sung by B Praak, the song sets the stage for the romance between the strong political leader played by Bhumi Pednekar and relative novice played by Karan Kapadia. As they withstand the violence and machinations of their political opponents, their bond grows stronger. Visually pleasant, the video features no choreography as such and builds on the storyline.
The music is another story. Bagchi foregoes heavy electronic stylings in favour of minimalism. The staccato rhythm of the tabla and the sarod are a wonderful touch. The lyrics are not exceptional, but they fit the rhythm and speak to the emotions. It is B Praak's soaring voice that truly brings out the character of the song. The singer has delivered some exceptional renditions, and this one is another feather in his cap.
Durgamati has been directed by G Ashok, and is set to be released on Amazon Prime Video on 11 December.
