The organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has honoured actress Richa Chadha with the Best Vegan Style Icon award this year.
The announcement was made yesterday at PETA’s annual awards function, which took place online this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Chadha was chosen for the award for promoting ‘cruelty-free’ clothing. 'The initiative recognizes the most progressive brands and individuals ushering forth animal-free fashion,' said an official statement by Chadha’s publicist.
Sharing her happiness on winning the award, Chadha said in a statement, "I am delighted to be named a style icon. Although it’s not always possible because we rely on stylists and make-up people to make us look great and can’t always choose cruelty-free things, in my personal life I always strive to stay the course."
Citing an example of how she follows the precept in personal life, Chadha said, “For instance, I stopped wearing silk and leather a few years ago. I am very pleased with this recognition. Thank you PETA.”
Chadha has won back-to-back awards. Just last week, she was conferred with the Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar award for her contribution to Indian cinema.
On the work front, the actress will be seen next in the movie Lahore Confidential, which will be streamed on Zee5 from 11 December.
