Telugu actor Bellamkonda Srinivas, who is known for such films as Alludu Seenu (2014), Jaya Janaki Nayaka (2017) and Rakshasudu (2019), is all set to make his Hindi cinema debut with the remake of SS Rajamouli’s Chatrapathi (2005), which starred Prabhas.
The announcement was made on Friday and the remake will be directed by VV Vinayak and produced by Jayantilal Gada of Pen Studio.
Talking about the project, Gada said in the statement: “Chatrapathi is a great script. We needed a southern star to carry it to Bollywood, and we saw Bellamkonda as a perfect fit. We are very excited about the project, and everything is falling in place at great speed. We have updated the script to match Bollywood sensibilities.”
Chatrapathi is centred on a man named Shivaji, played by Prabhas, who becomes the messiah of the residents of a small fishing hamlet where he grows up after being separated from his mother and brother as a child.
The film was extremely successful and it marked the maiden successful collaboration of Prabhas and Rajamouli. The film also featured Shriya Saran, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Jayaprakash Reddy and Bhanupriya.
A thrilled Srinivas said: “This is the perfect project for my big Bollywood debut. It’s a great opportunity to collaborate with Mr Gada and Pen Studios and to be reunited with my first ever director VV Vinayak sir. Although taking on a role that Prabhas did is a huge responsibility, I’m glad I did, as it’s a perfect script [sic].”
The project will also mark the Hindi debut of VV Vinayak, who is known for many commercial hits such as Tagore (2003), Lakshmi (2006), Naayak (2013) and Khaidi No 150 (2017).
