The trailers of two consecutive seasons of Srijit Mukherji’s upcoming web-series Feluda Pherot invoke different time periods. Slated to be streamed on Addatimes from the month of December, the series will bring to life Satyajit Ray’s Chhinnamastar Abhishap and Jawto Kando Kathmandute in different seasons. The former, which has never been cinematically adapted before, is set in the period in which it was originally written while the latter has been rendered as a modern adaptation.
While the trailers have distinct cinematic looks, corresponding to their respective settings, the look of the cast, as well as some of the frames, strongly calls to mind Ray’s original sketches for his Feluda stories.
The casting of Roy Chowdhury has generated buzz, as the actor apparently strongly resembles Ray's sketch of the character. Though he looks suave and quick-witted in several sequences of the trailers, it is also apparent that Roy Chowdhury has brought a gentler approach to the role with his body language.
The trailers are filled with strong punchlines and most of the dialogues are retained from the books. Kalpan Mitra as Topse is hardly noticeable in the trailers; on the other hand, Anirban Chakrabarti seems promising as Jatayu.
The VFX in the Chhinnamastar Abhishap trailer looks amateurish and so does the cinematic composition of some of the intense moments. However, Kharaj Mukherjee as Maganlal Meghraj steals the show in the Jawto Kando Kathmandute trailer, with a completely unique take on the character, who was previously essayed by the legendary Utpal Dutt.
In both the trailers, Joy Sarkar’s background score plays an important role and he seems to have derived inspiration from the music of Ray’s own Feluda films.
