Ramesh Varma nominated for Best Actor Award at The Asian Film Festival, Los Angeles

Actor and a Kathakali maestro Ramesh Varma has been nominated for a Best Actor Award for the film The 137 Auditions of Avrahaam Yaakob at The Asian Film Festival, Los Angeles, Hollywood. The feature film marks the directorial debut of Anup Narayanan and it traces the journey of an aspiring actor.
The film follows Avrahaam Yaakob, one of the last remaining Indian jews in the coastal town of Kochi, in India. Despite being 60 years old, he continues to audition for movies, as he cannot resist the desire to become a actor. Although success has eluded him so far, over the years, with every part that he auditions for, he gradually discovers the joy of becoming another character. From that point onwards, his pursuit is to experience the joy of becoming another human being on the audition floor.
The film was an official selection at the festival and was also screened as part of the Tokyo Lift-Off International Film Festival 2020 and a semi-finalist at Leloun Film Festival, Syria.
Varma has acted in several Malayalam films and was recently seen playing the character of Vijayan in Geetha J’s critically acclaimed feature Run Kalyani (2019).
The Asian Film Festival, Los Angeles is a non-profit organization of the film industry in the United States, founded by the Asian Film Festival Committee and American International Chamber of Commerce.
