Das-Capital song 'Babuni': Lead characters' life is described in this folk number

Besides Yashpal Sharma and Pratibha Sharma, the song briefly features the late actor Asif Basra.

Keyur Seta

Versatile actor Asif Basra died yesterday, reportedly by suicide. The actor was found hanging in a private complex in McLeodganj in Himachal Pradesh. The reason why he gets a mention in this article about the first song from the forthcoming Das-Capital: Gulamon Ki Rajdhani is that it features him at the start. Das-Capital is among Basra's last films to be released.

'Babuni' is one of those rural folk numbers that hardly find a place in modern Hindi cinema. The song, like the story, is set in the hinterland of Bihar.

A couple of eunuchs are performing to the song as part of some celebration. But the song is more about the married life of the lead characters played by Yashpal Sharma and Pratibha Sharma. We are given a quick tour of their life from their typical rural wedding to their first night to Yashpal Sharma's character busy thinking about his new bride despite being immersed in work.

'Babuni' is a triumph of music composer Amod Bhatt. Though you might not understand each and every word of the song, the tune created from specific instruments is impressive enough. Singers Swaroop Khan and Ajay Jayram's voices blend perfectly with the track.

Das-Capital: Gulamon Ki Rajdhani was the last film to be directed by cinematographer-director Rajen Kothari who died in 2012. The film is all set to be released on the OTT platform Cinemapreneur on 20 November.

Watch the song below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
