Sonu Sood has been one of the few celebrities who has been in the news this year for good reasons. The actor garnered praise from all quarters for extending a hand to poor labourers and helping them reach their home towns for free when the lockdown brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic was in full swing.
Sood has come up with a book that recounts his experiences helping migrant labourers. Titled I Am No Messiah, It will reveal the emotional challenges he faced during the whole affair. The book will be co-written by veteran journalist and author Meena K Iyer, who had also co-written Rishi Kapoor’s autobiography Khullam Khulla: Rishi Kapoor Uncensored.
Speaking about his book and its title to the news agency Indo-Asian News Service (IANS), Sood said, “People have been very kind and have lovingly called me a messiah. But I really do believe that I am no messiah. I simply do what my heart tells me to. It is our responsibility as human beings to be compassionate and help each other.”
In a previous statement, Sood had expressed himself saying, “I want to thank god for making me a catalyst in helping the migrants. While my heart beats in Mumbai, after this movement I feel a part of me lives in the villages of UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam, Uttarakhand and various other states, where I have now found new friends and made deep connections. I have decided to put these experiences and stories that are embedded in my soul forever, in a book.”
The book will be released by Penguin next month in December.
