Courtroom dramas always come with a probability of being engaging. So, it’s no surprise to see this genre being explored in a web-series format. The trailer of Illegal, Sahir Raza’s courtroom drama sees Neha Sharma, Piyush Mishra and Akshay Oberoi playing lawyers.
A senior criminal lawyer Janardan Jaitley (Mishra) is considered the best in India. But he needs a lawyer who can win in the courtroom as well as in front of the media for a specific case. He brings the dynamic and fearless Niharika Singh (Sharma) on board. She is nicknamed ‘mad lawyer’ by the media because of a past incident.
Niharika, who is against capital punishment, takes over the case and realizes that it is more complicated and tough than she imagined it to be. Slowly the case, which acquires political overtones, starts affecting her personal life. Will Niharika win the various battles?
Going by the trailer of the series, Illegal promises to be a courtroom drama, which is high on emotions. The series seems to have a smart mix of the professional and personal lives of the people from the legal profession. The gripping background score adds to the intensity.
Sharma has so far played supporting roles in a number of Hindi films. Illegal might just be her big ticket to fame as a lead protagonist, provided the series turns out to be impressive.
Illegal will start streaming on Voot from 12 May onwards.
