The first trailer for Anushka Sharma's next production, Paatal Lok, was released on Monday. The crime series will stream on Amazon Prime Video from 15 May onwards. Featuring Neeraj Kabi, Jaideep Ahlawat, Gul Panag and Abhishek Banerjee, the series has been created by Sudip Sharma.

The three-minute-long trailer begins with Ahlawat's inspector Hathi Ram Chowdhry explaining the lines that divide the worlds. "There is heaven. There is earth. Then there is hell," he says. The visuals compare heaven to the uber-rich, high society life, while earth belongs to the ordinary men and women, including the cops. Hell, though, is occupied by the lowest of worms - criminals and petty thieves.

The only problem, as Hathi Ram suggests, is when the worms decide to invade other worlds. This happens when four criminals are arrested for conspiring to murder a journalist, Sanjeev Mehra (Neeraj Kabi). The reason though keeps evading Ahlawat's nosy inspector, even as the evidence in front of him keeps getting erased. While he suspects a bigger conspiracy, those living in the high echelons will not let it be discovered.

The trailer is filled with suspense and packed with a talented cast that offers promise. Ahlawat, Kabi, Gul Panag, Vipin Sharma and Banerjee are all proven performers. It is also a new experience to see Banerjee play a ruthless killer, as opposed to the quiet, docile characters he has played so far. The actor also pulls it off in the trailer with his zoned out look.

The series is created by Sharma, who also wrote NH10 (2015) and Sonchiriya (2019). This is Sharma's first collaboration on a web-series. It also marks Anushka Sharma's first foray into producing a web-series. The series will be directed by Avinash Arun and Prosit Roy.
