Tryst With Destiny is the only Indian movie to have won an award in the international section this year. Like a lot of festivals around the world, the Tribeca festival also could not take place physically because of the coronavirus pandemic. The winners were announced online last week.
Festival co-founder and CEO Jane Rosenthal said while disclosing the winners online, “We are fortunate that technology allowed for our jury to come together this year to honour our filmmakers. Despite not being able to be together physically, we were still able to support our artists, which has always been at the heart of the festival.”
Tryst With Destiny stars Viineet Kumar, best known for his leading role in Anurag Kashyap's Mukkabaaz (2018), which he co-wrote, Jaideep Ahlawat, Suhasini Maniratnam, Victor Banerjee, Ashish Vidyarthi, Palomi Ghosh and Kani Kusruti. The film has three parallel tracks about a billionaire, a 'lower-caste' couple and a corrupt city police officer taking place in contemporary India.
