The title track of Srijit Mukherji’s upcoming web-series, Feluda Pherot, has triggered a wave of nostalgia among Feluda fans who are now anticipating a brand new adaptation of their favourite detective. The song, 'Golpo Nie Feluda Firchhe Abar', was launched on Saturday 2 May on Satyajit Ray’s 99th birth anniversary.
The energetic and youthful composition by Joy Sarkar has been rendered by Rupam Islam, Rupankar Bagchi and Anupam Roy. The lyrics by Srijato Bandopadhyay tug at the chords of associations Feluda fans have with both Ray’s Feluda stories as well as his films and the cinematic adaptations by Sandip Ray.
It is a tribute to the creation that has been amplified with the idea of incorporating three vocalists, who have infused their individual style of rendition, lending shades to the song. The thriller element within the orchestration of melody and rhythm goes perfectly with the refreshing mood that the song establishes.
Feluda Pherot features Tota Roy Chowdhury as the iconic sleuth, Kalpan Mitra as Topse and Anirban Bhattacharya as Lal Mohan Ganguly. The video does not have any stills of these actors; instead Mukherji has chosen to celebrate Ray’s illustrations that have a special place in the hearts of Feluda fans.
The director has repeatedly mentioned that he has attempted to closely follow the illustrations while conceptualizing the upcoming series for Addatimes. Mukherji has adapted Ray’s Joto Kando Kathmandute and Chhinnamastar Obhishaap for the series. One of them will highlight the period in which the original story was set, while the other will be adapted to contemporary times.
