Actress Sanya Malhotra underwent emergency surgery earlier this month to reconstruct her injured finger. Malhotra, lives alone in Mumbai, had a freak accident at home on 14 May during the lockdown.

After two weeks, more details about the accident have been shared in the daily Mumbai Mirror. According to a source, Malhotra was making chutney in a blender when the accident happened. When she switched the blender on, the lid accidentally flew off. In a struggle to put it back, her hand slipped in, cutting off part of her little finger. As a result, the actress lost a lot of blood.

The source said, "Sanya was all alone at home and had started feeling drowsy due to loss of blood. She called a friend over to keep her from fainting while another rushed her to a suburban hospital, where after testing negative for COVID-19, she was admitted." Malhotra had two fractures, one dislocation and two-three major cuts on her fingers due to the mishap and was sent into surgery then and there.

Malhotra hinted about her unexpected ordeal a week ago, on May 23 when she wrote on Instagram, "Kuch behat crazy 9 dino ke baad [After nine extremely crazy days later] I'm back with a new reconstructed little finger. Lambi Kahani Choti ungli [Long story, little finger], stay safe, stay home".

The actress, who was last seen in Photograph (2019) alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui, has been quite active on social media in this lockdown period. She will next be seen in Shakuntala Devi (2020) with Vidya Balan. It is due to be released next month on Amazon Prime Video.
