The song, ‘Jootam Phenk’ from Gulabo Sitabo is a fun number, which highlights the multi-faceted talent of Piyush Mishra. Along with being a fine actor, he is also a talented singer and lyric writer.
‘Jootam Phenk’ sees Mishra display his vocal prowess. His soothing voice forms an unusual, but likeable combination with the peppy nature of the song. Mishra has proven his versatility as a singer, considering how he even mastered the dark and gloomy number, ‘Ek Bagal Mein Chand Hoga’ from Gangs Of Wasseypur (2012).
‘Jootam Phenk’ is the theme song of the film, which highlights the undying conflict between the characters played by Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana. Puneet Sharma’s witty lyrics succeed in establishing the comic nature of the war right at the beginning. The song required a fun music composition and Abhishek Arora provides exactly that.
The video is pleasing to watch as well for many reasons. The visuals are shown in a fast-forward mode, imparting a feel of the silent, black and white Charlie Chaplin movies. The ploy works. Also, one can sees some great co-ordination between Bachchan and Khurrana. The two complement each other well, despite being on opposing sides.
Directed by Shoojit Sircar, Gulabo Sitabo sees Bachchan and Khurrana play a quarrelling landlord and tenant, respectively. The film will be released on Amazon Prime Video on 12 June.
