The trailer for Anurag Kashyap's Choked: Paisa Bolta Hai captures a perfect middle-class conundrum that is immensely relatable and quite gripping. Featuring Saiyami Kher, Roshan Mathew, Rajshri Deshpande, Upendra Limaye and Amruta Subhash, the film will be released on the OTT platform Netflix on 5 June.

The trailer begins with a very relatable scene in the life of a frustrated housewife, Sarita Pillai (Kher). From the chipping paint in her apartment to a husband who is a financial burden and the boredom of her work, she is fighting a battle on multiple fronts. One of the biggest battles involves a blocked drain in her kitchen that is a pain for the entire society.

The answer to the blockage lies in the bundles of notes wrapped in plastic covers hidden in the pipe by an upstairs resident (Limaye). For Sarita, these notes become the answer to her greatest worries. For once, she believes life is going to be perfect. Except, the prime minister announces his dreaded demonetization plan, throwing a spanner in the works.

Now, Sarita has to get rid of the notes, with the mysterious neighbour telling her what to do.

Written by Nihit Bhave, the film has the look and feel of a gripping middle-class drama that fits in perfectly with the current ethos. Its relatable story aside, the film has the elements of a dark, foreboding situation with a touch of the wry, snarky humour that is Kashyap's style.

Kher looks convincing in her part, while Roshan Mathews adds to the mix as the bumbling husband. With a cast that also includes Amruta Subhash, Upendra Limaye and Rajshri Deshpande, the film might just be the uplift needed.
