Shoojit Sircar’s next, Gulabo Sitabo (2020), is about to make history of sorts as it becomes the first Hindi film, which was slated for a theatrical release, to arrive directly on a streaming platform. The film’s new motion logo welcomes viewers to the world of Mirza (Amitabh Bachchan) and Baankey (Ayushmann Khurrana), who will go up against each other in the quirky comedy.
The motion logo video indicates a bit about the film's setting and milieu. The film is set in the Hazratgunj and Aminabad areas of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Curiously, two goats pitted against each other, kind of like Mirza and Baankey, shows how the two characters will confront each other in a battle to settle all battles. The logo shows all the elements of its poster design unveiled earlier, including a chandelier, a lightbulb and several pink flowers.
According to the makers, Mirza and Baankey are like Tom and Jerry and also “unique and unmatched, friend and foe, naughty and smart, little and large, all things needed to create chaos!”
Gulabo Sitabo is written by National award-winner Juhi Chaturvedi, who is from Lucknow. Produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar, Gulabo Sitabo will premiere worldwide on 12 June, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
