News about the third instalment of Hera Pheri has been making the rounds for years. The last we heard about it was in April 2019, when Priyadarshan, who helmed the first instalment, told the news agency IANS, “It is true that I had one meeting with producer Firoz A Nadiadwala and that was it. Nothing is decided and I can’t say whether this will happen.”
In March last year, filmmaker Indra Kumar had said on record that he would be directing Hera Pheri 3, and that it would bring back the trio of Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal. The film was supposed to go on floors at the end of 2019, but it did not.
Now, Suniel Shetty, who plays Ghanshyam, aka Shyam, in the series, has again raised hope about Hera Pheri 3. However, the actor also indicated that there are some creative differences in the team, which need to be sorted. Speaking to the daily, Mumbai Mirror, Shetty said, “Everything is on hold now. The film’s team intends to make Hera Pheri 3, but some differences need to be ironed out first.”
The actor also pointed out how memes from the two Hera Pheri films have been continuously doing rounds on social media. “The film is a big hit on television as well as in the meme world and we are all aware of the anticipation among the audience for the film,” he added.
Despite the first movie in the series, Hera Pheri (2000), turning out to be a success, the second movie in the franchise, Phir Hera Pheri (2006), directed by the late Neeraj Vora, who had written the dialogues for the first, did not fare so well at the box office.
