Actor-filmmaker Sanjay Khan is set to return to direction once the countrywide lockdown ends. In a recent interview, the filmmaker revealed that he is planning a biopic on Mahavir Chakra winner Brigadier Mohammed Usman. The film will feature Khan's son Zayed in the lead.
Speaking to the Mid-Day.newspaper, Sanjay Khan said, "I am working hard on the script because I want to make it as authentic as possible. I want to depict the Indian Army's bravery and how they fought despite not being armed with sufficient artillery and equipment. The brigadier's story is one of courage and principle."
Brigadier Mohammed Usman won the Mahavir Chakra for his battle to defend the Nowshera pass in Jammu during the first India-Pakistan war in 1948. The brigadier was one of the most senior and highly decorated Indian military officers to fall in battle.
The film will mark Sanjay Khan's return to the director's chair after his last major feature film, Abdullah (1980). While the actor-director did announced Sur Zameen (1988), the film was abandoned half way.
The director has planned to cast son Zayed Khan for the lead. Sanjay Khan said, "He is one of the most handsome actors in the film industry. As a father, it is my duty to make a film for him. The audience will rediscover him in the movie."
Zayed Khan was last seen in the film Sharafat Gayi Tel Lene (2015).
