Composer Amaal Malik has found a way past the lockdown to continue to work on the music of the upcoming biopic on badminton player Saina Nehwal. The composer is collaborating with the Macedonian Symphonic Orchestra for two key tracks in the film directed by Amole Gupte.
The film will feature Parineeti Chopra in the lead role of the badminton champion. Speaking to IANS, Mallik said, "The Saina Nehwal film’s soundtrack is one of the most prestigious and powerful scores I have worked on. We haven’t done something so beautiful like this before, something so varied, like multi-genre."
Announced in 2017, the biopic on Nehwal went on the floors in October 2019 with its new lead, Chopra. However, the sudden coronavirus pandemic resulted in a complete shutdown of the film's shooting, along with several others.
Mallik shared a short snippet of himself in his studio during a video call with the Macedonian Symphonic Orchestra, consisting of 40 musicians, as they worked on one of the tracks. The lyrics to the song are written by Manoj Muntashir.
Speaking to Mid-Day.com, Mallik said, "The songs are related to the story. One is an anthem that deals with Saina's personality, her passion for the game, and how she approaches it. Yet, it is not preachy. The second song is about emotions, and what a family endures while moulding a champ. It is also about the relationship between a parent and daughter."
Praising Mallik's work, director Gupte told IANS, "Amaal is taking the music of Saina to another level, more power to him always."
While the work on the music is already afoot, the shooting remains on halt since there have been no guidelines issued for the film industry as of today.
