Box office: Tiger Shroff’s Baaghi 3 has decent first weekend

However, the film's collection has been lower than that of Baaghi 2 (2018).

As Baaghi 2 (2018) became a blockbuster, a lot was expected from the next film in the Baaghi franchise. However, the Tiger Shroff-starrer Baaghi 3 has performed below expectation, closing its first weekend with a collection of Rs52.75 crore nett, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.

Baaghi 3, directed by Ahmed Khan, had opened with Rs17.50 crore nett on Friday, much lower than Baaghi 2's mammoth Rs25 crore opening. However, to be fair, Baaghi 2 had been released on a public holiday, Good Friday. And the current coronavirus scare may well have kept some of the audiences away.

The film's performance on the subsequent two days suggests that the health scare may well have had something to do with the sub-par performance. Baaghi 3 did not show any noticeable growth on Saturday or Sunday, when it made Rs15.50 crore nett and Rs19.75 crore nett, respectively. Baaghi 2, on the other hand, had finished the first weekend with an impressive haul of Rs72.48 crore nett.

Baaghi 3 is much larger in scale than Baaghi 2. According to trade sources, the film has been made on an estimated budget of around Rs100 crore. Given the size of the budget, the film clearly needs a good first week and second weekend as well to be considered a safe bet for its makers.

Meanwhile, the Taapsee Pannu-starrer Thappad could score only Rs4.90 crore nett on its second weekend. The total of the Anubhav Sinha film at the domestic box office currently stands at Rs25.79 crore nett.
