Tiger Shroff's latest action film, Baaghi 3 (2020), had a good first day with a collection of Rs17.5 crore nett, according to figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.
The film, directed by Ahmed Khan, easily beat out the Ajay Devgn-starrer Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior (2020), which had made around Rs13 crore nett on its opening day, 10 January. Baaghi 3, Tanhaji and Imtiaz Ali's Love Aaj Kal (released on 14 February) are the only three Hindi films to have opened with a collection of more than Rs10 crore at the domestic box office this year as yet.
Baaghi 3's collections, though good, could have been better. The film has possibly been hit by news of coronavirus cases in India, which have been rising steadily. The panic caused by the pandemic and fear of the infection may have kept at least some moviegoers away.
Baaghi 3 has been released on 4,300 screens across India and has expanded to more screens in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The Tiger Shroff vehicle is also likely to get a boost from the upcoming Holi holiday next week which might bring in more footfalls and cause a jump in the collections.
Meanwhile, the Taapsee Pannu-starrer Thappad (2020) collected Rs1 crore nett on its second Friday, taking its overall collection at the domestic box office to Rs22.05 crore nett. It will likely finish at Rs30 crore by the end of its theatrical run.
