Before India's women's cricket team takes on hosts Australia tomorrow, 8 March, in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup, it can draw inspiration from the country's first big win on the world stage in cricket, all the way back in 1983. In a new still from Kabir Khan's 83 (2020), due for release next month, leading man Ranveer Singh can be seen lifting the Prudential World Cup as Kapil Dev.
The still was released by the makers on their official social media handles, and features Ranveer Singh looking uncannily like captain Kapil Dev as he basks in the thrill of India's first cricket World Cup victory.
Khan's sports film will recap the exciting journey of Kapil Dev and his teammates as they beat Zimbabwe, Australia, England and, eventually, the mighty West Indies, the two-time defending champions, for the title.
The attention to detail in the film is evident, as Kabir Khan and his team have recreated and matched the historic event. Ranveer Singh, too, looks the part, right down to Kapil Dev's trademark curls and wide grin as he receives the trophy. A photo shared by a Twitter user shows the actual moment in 1983 when Kapil Dev picked up the World Cup.
