Rohena Gera's Sir finally arrives with a trailer to announce its imminent release on 20 March. Featuring Tillotama Shome and Vivek Gomber, the film deals with the complex relationship between a maid and her employer. The film won the Gan Foundation award at the Cannes film festival in 2019. It also won for Shome the Best Actress award at the Brussels International Film Festival the same year.
The trailer is a slow, lingering, serene portrait of the two lives that unknowingly intersect. Shome plays the determined hardworking maid for an elite upper-class employer (Gomber). There is little in common between the two. Yet, they share a sense of loneliness and disquiet in a society that neither fits into. But that does not mean love is easy. As a friend of Gomber's character remarks, "You cannot date your maid!"
Rohena Gera explores this disparity of class and the hurdles it places in the path of love. As the tagline for the trailer suggests, the film raises the question of whether 'love is enough' to bridge this gap. With a visual elegance and understated subtext, the film certainly has an aesthetic beauty.
Sir also features Geetanjali Kulkarni, and will be released in theatres on 20 March. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch this film.
