Neighbours teaser: Has Marathi cinema found its first alien movie?

The teaser of Vinay Shrirang Gholap’s Marathi movie Neighbours (2020), is out. As the title indicates, the two main characters, played by Chetan Chitnis and Krutika Gaikwad, are neighbours in a building. The film seems to explore something, which has so far been unexplored in Marathi cinema, the sci-fi concept of aliens. 

We are initially shown that the neighbours, Chitnis and Gaikwad, have a soft corner for each other. But one day the guy learns that the girl doesn’t belong to planet Earth. Then there is a scene, where she is seen contacting someone from another planet. 

The unexplored genre will most probably make heads turn if the film is marketed properly. Of course, it then depends on how the director has treated the subject. 

Neighbours is Gholap’s debut as a writer and director. Chitnis has acted in films like Vazandar (2016) and Photo Copy (2016). Gaikwad has been seen in quite a few films, including Bandishala (2019), which starred Mukta Barve in the lead.
