Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar trailer: Parineeti Chopra, Arjun Kapoor play deadly cat-and-mouse game in Dibakar Banerjee's thriller

A young woman trying to escape New Delhi might be understandable, but the reasons for Sandeep Kaur's urgent need to leave the city remain a mystery in the trailer for Dibakar Banerjee's Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar.

The film features Parineeti Chopra, Arjun Kapoor, Neena Gupta, Jaideep Ahlawat and Raghuvir Yadav. The trailer begins on a night in posh Delhi before it spirals into a mysterious on-the-run tale of conspiracy and murder.

While Sandeep Kaur (Chopra) is on the run from her family, she takes the help of Pinky Dahiya (Kapoor). Unknown to her, however, Pinky has been hired by her own family's problem solver (Ahlawat).

The trailer moves between noirish darkness and light-hearted humour, making for quirky viewing. The humour comes with the appearance of Neena Gupta and Raghuvir Yadav as a genial couple who run a boarding service that the two runaways seek shelter in, before crossing the border out of India.

Even as they pretend to be a couple, Pinky continues to ponder whether he should complete the assassination. The sight of Pinky strangling a desperate Sandeep towards the end hints that he at least attempts to do so. Whether he succeeds remains to be seen.

The trailer has a lot of trademarks of societal horror, dark mystery and thrill that are often associated with Banerjee's films. This is a Yash Raj Films production, which probably explains the touches of lightness and colour that invade the scenes in the trailer. It makes for an interesting mix, though it also adds to the confusion. Perhaps that is a strategy to keep the audience guessing until the film's release.
