BR Bhagwat's Faster Fene is an iconic character in Marathi literature. Three years ago, Aditya Sarpotdar made a film, Faster Fene (2017), based on the literary character. The film starred Amey Wagh in the titular role and was a success at the box office. It also featured actor Girish Kulkarni in a negative role.

After the release of the film, the director spoke about his wish to make a sequel. Two years down the line, Sarpotdar has officially confirmed the same in an exclusive chat with Cinestaan.com.

"Kshitij (Patwardhan) and I are working on the script for the sequel. We want to make a film that is set in current times and deals with current social issues. If you recall, in the first film, we showed the corruption in the education system after the MBBS exam scam that took place in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Marks were changed unfairly. It happens all over India," the director said.

Sarpotdar feels that the issue is outdated now and wants to explore something different for the sequel. "We had explored the corruption in the education system in the first film, and now want to explore a different social issue and are currently working on it. We wish to finish the pre-production by the end of this year. Hopefully, we will be able to release it next year. But I assure you, the Faster Fene sequel will definitely happen," he said.

Sarpotdar is also working on his second Hindi directorial venture after Thodi Thodi Si Manmaaniyan (2017). "I'm also directing a Hindi film that is being produced by Ronnie Screwvala under his production house RSVP. I have been working on the pre-production of the film since last year. We will begin shooting as soon as the lockdown is over. Right now I can only say that it is a big-scale commercial film," he added.
