The biopic trend seems to be here to stay in Hindi cinema. In recent years, Marathi cinema too has been following this trend with films like Aani... Dr Kashinath Ghanekar (2018), Bhaai: Vyakti Kee Valli (2019) and Thackeray (2019), among others.
These films were based on celebrated figures from different walks of life. A biopic on neurosurgeon Dr Premanand Shantaram Ramani, or Dr PS Ramani as he is fondly called, is currently in the making. Titled Tath Kana, or Erect Spine, the film, which has been directed by Dasbabu, will see Umesh Kamat play the titular role.
The teaser of Tath Kana was released in August 2017 and the first posters were out in May 2018. But shooting for the film was wrapped up only recently, said Kamat.
Revealing some details about the film, he said, “I have recently completed shooting for a film. It’s a biopic on Dr PS Ramani. He is a great neurosurgeon. I finished shooting, following which the lockdown happened. The post-production of the film remains.” Kamat shared this information during an interview about the second season of his web-series Aani Kay Hava?
For the uninitiated, Dr Ramani is one of the most famous neurosurgeons in India. He is known for his neurospinal surgery technique called PLIF (Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion) Ramani Technique. Originally from Goa, the doctor, now 81, practises at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital as neurospinal surgeon. Each year, a marathon called the Dr PS Ramani Goa Marathon is held in his honour in his home state.
Kamat also said that he has another project, the details of which he will be able to reveal only later.
