As Siddharth P Malhotra’s Hichki (2018) completes two years today, the filmmaker shared a social media post about the film’s journey from a dream to its release on the big screen.
The drama, starring Rani Mukerji, told the story of Naina, a schoolteacher with Tourette’s syndrome, who transforms a class of undervalued, forgotten students.
On Instagram, Malhotra thanked everyone who worked on the film, beginning from producer Aditya Chopra to cinematographer Avinash Arun, the cast led by Mukerji and all the technicians.
According to the director, he had a tough time making the film as it lacked financial viability, given that his previous work We Are Family (2010) had not done particularly well.
“No actor or studio was ready to consider this film until Rani and YRF [Yash Raj Films] flew in like angels,” he shared.
“Rani is one of the coolest people to work with. I cannot imagine Hichki turning out the way it did with anyone else as Naina,” he added.
