With the release of Rohit Shetty's Sooryavanshi (2020) held up by the coronavirus pandemic, actress Katrina Kaif has set her sights on her next project. The film, to be directed by controversial filmmaker Vikas Bahl, will also feature Amitabh Bachchan in the role of Kaif's father.
A report in the Mumbai MIrror newspaper quoted a source close to the film's production team as saying, "The film is tentatively titled Deadly as the story centres on a funeral. Katrina loved the basic premise, which essentially traces the protagonist's journey of self-discovery with humorous undertones, and gave an instant go-ahead to Vikas."
The film will mark the second major collaboration between Kaif and Bachchan following the Yash Raj Films dud, Thugs Of Hindostan (2018), which also featured Aamir Khan.
Bahl last directed the Hrithik Roshan-starrer Super 30 (2019), based on the life of mathematics teacher Anand Kumar. The film also marked Bahl's return to the industry following the sexual harassment charges against him, which were not pressed legally.
While both Kaif and Bachchan have reportedly shown an interest in the project, neither has officially signed on, the report said. The film was set to go on the floors in May, but that plan has now been suspended owing to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
Besides the Bahl project, Katrina Kaif is reportedly in the running for a new project with Ishaan Khatter and Ananya Pandey as well as for the third part of the hit Tiger franchise, with Ali Abbas Zafar.
Currently, all production and post-production work in the Hindi film industry has been shut down owing to the coronavirus pandemic.
