Coronavirus update: Marvel's Black Widow, starring Scarlett Johansson, delayed indefinitely

Evidently, not even superheroes can ward off the coronavirus pandemic. The first Marvel film to release in 2020, Black Widow, has now been delayed indefinitely in view of the global pandemic. Featuring Scarlett Johansson, the film was scheduled to have an American release on 1 May, and an Indian release on 24 April. 

This is the latest big-ticket film from Hollywood to be delayed, following the announcements of Disney's Mulan, the next instalment of the Fast And The Furious franchise, and the shoot for the Mission Impossible series. 

Black Widow was the second big female-led film from Marvel, and the first solo film for the female Avenger which would follow the journey of the eponymous spy played by Scarlett Johansson. 

While Disney had already delayed Mulan, as well as other films like The New Mutants, and Antlers, it delayed the postponing of Black Widow. However, with cinema halls in New York, New Jersey, Ohio, and Washington, ordered to shut down, the announcement was inevitable. 

According to Variety.com, Disney Studios have also pulled the Dev Patel-led drama, The Personal History Of David Copperfield, as well the Amy Adams-starrer, The Woman In The Window, which were due to released on 8 May and 15 April respectively. 

The announcement ensures an extremely lean month for films in India as well, with several big Hindi cinema releases being indefinitely delayed, and theatres shut till 31 March.
