Siddhant Chaturvedi has had a meteoric rise in Hindi films after Gully Boy (2019), where he played the role of a rapper, MC Sher. His character was loved by both critics and filmgoers. He has very quickly established himself as a youth icon. But it seems his popularity is not just restricted to the youth, but also cricketers.
At a recent event, former Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh was asked who he would choose to play him in his biopic. His answer was Siddhant Chaturvedi. “Probably, I’d play myself — that would be a bit desperate… (chuckles) hai na? See, that’s the director’s job to decide. If it’s going to be a Bollywood film, then Siddhant Chaturvedi — the guy who played MC Sher in Gully Boy — is a good option. I’d love to see him in the film.”
Interestingly, Chaturvedi has already played the role of a cricketer in the Amazon Prime web-series Inside Edge. He played the role of a talented fast bowler, who hails from a small town. The actor received a lot of appreciation for his role in the series.
Seeing that the actor has already proved his acting prowess with Gully Boy, and his experience of playing a cricketer on camera with Inside Edge, Chaturvedi could actually be an interesting choice to play Singh. If it actually happens, it won't be the first time Singh's character will appear on the big screen. In the Mahendra Singh Dhoni biopic, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016), Punjabi actor Herry Tangiri had played Singh's character.
On the work front, Chaturvedi will be seen next in Bunty Aur Babli 2 (2020), followed by Shakun Batra's untitled next, alongside Deepika Padukone and Ananya Panday.
