The teaser of Debaloy Bhattacharya’s upcoming film Dracula Sir presents an intriguing glimpse of the lead character, portrayed by Anirban Bhattacharya. In the film, the actor plays a schoolteacher Raktim, with canine teeth, which attributes him the nickname of Dracula Sir.
The repeated name-calling and rumours of his appearance push him to turn into a vampire. The teaser also traces his journey into the past and his transformation. Back then, he not only had a lady love, but the romance also contained a tale of revenge.
The teaser plays a lot with darkness and shadows, to establish the mood of the film that contains gory elements. As it begins with Raktim quoting lines from a famous Bengali poem by Nabarun Bhattacharya and introduces his vampire avatar, Dracula Sir also suggests that Raktim’s journey reveals the insensitivity of humans, that resulted in turning him to a victim of circumstance that he was not responsible for.
At school, Raktim can be seen hiding his canine teeth as he teaches. The name-callings often push him into isolation and eventually, land him in scrutiny for his identity, as a lawyer (Kanchan Mullick) questions him about his past.
His lover from the past, Manjari (Mimi Chakraborty), has been endowed with a typical motif of Indian supernaturnal thrillers, carrying a lamp in her hands, and walking through darkness. She has an ethereal look throughout the teaser. However, her monologue regarding a fight for freedom is interesting in the context and perhaps has something to do with the tale of revenge as well.
Then there is also the glimpse a character, similar to the villanious Joker, which raises the intrigue whether Bhattacharya has drawn some inspiration from the iconic character as well. Though his face is not disclosed, but actor Rudranil Ghosh seems to be playing the challenging character.
The teaser ends with a sequence in which Raktim can be seen paying for his physical attributes and which again establishes connection with the beginning literary lines he quotes.
Dracula Sir is slated for release on 1 May. Watch the teaser below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
