With the coronavirus forcing governments across the world to shut down cinema halls and malls, the returns of several new releases have taken big hits. Homi Adajania's Angrezi Medium, starring Irrfan Khan and Radhika Madan, only recovered an amount of Rs3.50 crore on opening yesterday, according to figures from BoxOfficeIndia.com.

The collections are only going to get worse with cinema halls across the states of Maharashtra, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka shut till 31 March. The producers may well withdraw the film from the theatres and release it again later.

The collection of last week's holdover release, Baaghi 3, starring Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor, dropped to between Rs1.5 crore and Rs2 crore. With so many states shutting down public spaces and people avoiding crowded areas anyway, it is unlikely that the film will be able to build any further collection. This takes the film's total collection to Rs88 crore after eight days.

All upcoming releases have been postponed, with some films even pulling out of theatres at the last minute. It is unlikely that any film will collect more from this weekend till 31 March, when the situation is to be reviewed.
