Actor Rajinikanth on Thursday finally opened up about his entry into politics and clarified that he would not contest for the chief minister’s post, as he only wants to bring about a change in politics.
Speaking at a press conference in Chennai, Rajinikanth said that he will have a limited number of leaders in his party. He also highlighted the “political vaccum” in Tamil Nadu and acknowledged that there was a need to fill that space. “I have never thought of the chief minister’s post. I only want a change in politics,” news agency ANI quoted him as saying.
According to a Press Trust of India report, Rajinikanth proposed the appointment of an “educated and compassionate youngster” as chief minister of Tamil Nadu. According to speculation, the actor will join politics and contest the assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, which will be heldd next year. However, he has not made his plans official as yet.
In 2017, Rajinikanth made some very strong statements about his political entry. He said ““It’s a war... It’s a war. Get ready for battle.” But since that press conference, he has only been busy with his acting career. A year later, the actor had publicly claimed that 90 per cent of work for launching his party had been completed.
On the career front, Rajinikanth is busy shooting for upcoming Tamil film Annaatthe (2020), which is being directed by Sivakumar Jayakumar. The film also stars Keerthy Suresh, Meena and Kushboo in crucial roles. Bankrolled by Sun Pictures, Annaatthe has been confirmed as a Diwali 2020 release. The film has music by D Imman.
