Uthenge Hum: Bharatbala and team present glimpses of India during the lockdown

The countrywide lockdown to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic has seen the release of videos and songs by various individuals and teams in different languages. It has almost become routine now.

But what filmmaker Bharatbala has presented in his latest work is unique. The video, Uthenge Hum, which may best be described as a short documentary, captures arresting visuals from various states of India during the lockdown.

In a conversation with Cinestaan.com, the Vande Mataram music album producer said he wanted to document the country during a pandemic lockdown, something he — and we! — had never experienced before.

While the lockdown brought untold hardships on millions of people, workers and entrepreneurs alike, in Uthenge Hum, Bharatbala has tried to focus on various well-known landmarks and destinations in the country and how they look with not a soul in sight, almost. And the results are simply breathtaking.

While the abundant natural beauty of Kerala and Kashmir is a world apart from the urban landscapes of Mumbai and Delhi, what unites them in Uthenge Hum is the Tricolour and the short dialogue in the end.

Bharatbala employed as many as 117 people working in 16 teams located in 14 states to make this video. Despite that, the final video appears seamless, as if it were shot by a single team. The music is simple yet powerful and goes well with the visuals. Watch the film here:
