The teaser of Keerthy Suresh’s forthcoming Tamil thriller, Penguin (2020), directed by Eshvar Karthic follows the story of a mother in search of her missing son, with a serial killer on the prowl.

The teaser opens with a slightly blurred shot of Keerthy talking to her son. In the next shot, we see the kid walking with someone holding an orange umbrella. Cut to the next shot, we hear Keerthy calling out to her son Ajay. This is followed by a series of scenes depicting the efforts to find Ajay.

The teaser, which successfully establishes a very eerie feeling throughout, closes with a shot of a masked killer.

Penguin will be the second mainstream Tamil film after Jyotika’s Ponmagal Vandhal to directly opt for an OTT (over-the-top) release, bypassing theatres due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Tipped to be a horror-thriller, the film will see Keerthy take revenge but not through a human form. Apparently, she gave her nod to the project after hearing two lines of the story as she was quite moved by the core plot. The film was predominantly shot in the Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu.

The first look poster of Penguin was unveiled last year. The poster features Keerthy as a pregnant woman, and it could be sensed from her profile that she is sad.

Penguin wiill premiere on Amazon Prime on 19 June. Produced by Karthik Subbaraj’s Stone Bench Films, the film's music has been composed by Santosh Narayanan. Besides Keerthy, the film also stars Rangaraj and Linga in crucial roles.
