Veteran film producer Anil Suri dies of COVID-19 at 77

Veteran film producer Anil Suri died of COVID-19 on Friday. He was 77.

The news was confirmed by his brother, Rajiv Suri, who spoke to the Press Trust of India news agency. Rajiv Suri revealed that Anil Suri had displayed symptoms such as a fever on 2 June, and thereafter his condition worsened as he became breathless.

Rajiv also revealed that the producer was denied beds in Lilavati and Hinduja hospitals. "He was rushed to hospitals Hinduja and Lilavati, but both denied him a bed," he told the news agency.

"He was then taken to the advanced multi-specialty hospital on Wednesday night. He had COVID-19. On Thursday evening, they said something was amiss. He was put on a ventilator. He died around 7pm."

The last rites were held at the Oshiwara cremation ground. The producer is survived by his wife and two children.

Anil Suri was the producer of the Rekha-Raaj Kumar-starrer Karmayogi (1978) and the Dharmendra-Sunil Dutt multi-starrer Raaj Tilak (1984).
