Banobas, the recent lockdown short from Windows Production, tells the story of a young couple, separated in quarantine. Featuring Soham Majumder and Sauraseni Maitra, the short film explores the longing of two lovers, as one of them goes through the mandatory 14-day quarantine.
Majumder returns from Italy during the lockdown and as per the guidelines, he has to be quarantined for 14 days. His girlfriend (Maitra) makes sure to prepare his meals and send them across. The most intimate that they can get is by sitting with their backs against the door, which separates the quarantine zone from the rest of the house, or communicate by phone.
The conversations on the phone reveal that Majumder has been staying abroad for months, and now that he is finally back, they are not even allowed to face each other. The long separation has made his girlfriend reconsider her decision of not moving with him to Italy, leaving her parents behind in Kolkata.
They remind each other that they have only few hours left to complete the isolation period and anticipate getting together. However, it is at the end of the short film that the reality of the pandemic surfaces, a reality which is beyond the world of their romantic musings.
The story by Zinia Sen reveals how the COVID-19 pandemic has crushed the dreams of many and rendered even the smallest of life's joys difficult. The film also attempts to create awareness about coronavirus, so that people maintain physical distancing and personal hygiene so as to avoid being separated from their loved ones.
