Siddhant Chaturvedi smartly mixes Hindi poetry and rap in his debut single 'Dhoop'

Stuck at home because of the COVID-19 pandemic, actor Siddhant Chaturvedi, known for his portrayal of MC Sher in Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy (2019), talks about the sun, his one constant companion in the lockdown, in his single aptly titled ‘Dhoop’. 

Chaturvedi’s character did a lot of rapping in Gully Boy. But in ‘Dhoop’ he makes his debut as a singer and lyricist. The song is an interesting fusion of chaste Hindi poetry and rap. The two genres get naturally intertwined here in a moving poem that perfectly fits the current time. The result is a song that all of us trapped at home can relate to.  

Chaturvedi succeeds as a singer too with his simple yet effective vocals. DAWgeek’s music is to-the-point which is required in rap. 

‘Dhoop’ is visually impressive too. Chaturvedi’s house in Mumbai, which faces a long flyover, has been used well in the video. He is seen doing different tasks which ensures that the visuals are not stagnant. The fine animation by XX Watts, rich in visuals, ensures the video's high production value.  

The song is produced under Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Films' banner, which had also produced Gully Boy.
