Veteran lyricist Anwar Sagar died today in Mumbai, possibly of age-related issues, after failing to get admission in any of the hospitals he went to.
Anwar Sagar had written songs for a long list of Hindi films in the 1980s and 1990s. Lyricist Vijay Akela, his friend, told Cinestaan.com that Anwar Sagar was having breathing trouble in recent days and wanted to get himself admitted in a hospital but couldn’t.
“Anwar Sagarji came to Andheri today from his Mira Road residence to get himself treated," Vijay Akela said. "However, no beds were available at any of the hospitals he went to. When he reached Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, he was told the same thing. Eventually he died there.”
Some of the films for which Anwar Sagar wrote songs were Kishen Kanhaiya (1990), Dil Ka Kya Kasoor (1992), Balwaan (1992), Khiladi (1992), Sapne Sajan Ke (1992), Bekhudi (1992), Vijaypath (1994), Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994), Aa Gale Lag Jaa (1994), Salaami (1994), Yaarana (1995), Baazi (1995), and Yeh Zindagi Ka Safar (2001).
‘Vaada Raha Sanam’ from Khiladi and the title song of Main Khiladi Tu Anari are among the hit numbers penned by him which are remembered even today.
Anwar Sagar is the second Hindi film music personality to have died this week after music composer Wajid Ali Khan on Monday 1 June.
